12th Annual Community Transportation & Paratransit Seminar and Vendor Expo 2007

Workshop 1:               Post Accident Procedures for Maintenance

Presenter:  Halsey King, President of Halsey King & Associates

This workshop will help maintenance staff and vehicle supervisors to better understand the discovery process and the fundamentals of post accident bus protection.  Workshop elements will include: bus securements, protecting your bus maintenance records, analytical aspects of bus systems and components, limiting access to the bus, testing, photographs, document protection, black boxes and more!   Halsey King & Associates,  as expert witness participants in state and federal cases involving bus accidents and fires, have noticed a move by the courts to reach into the Maintenance Departments to get testimonies from the shop technicians.  That action can be a very uncomfortable experience and not in the best interest of the fleet, especially when the bus is exposed in plain view.

Workshop 2:               Improving Performance: How to Compete

Presenter:  Joseph Seitz, Director, Office of Training and Development, Maryland Transit Administration

“Think like a business.”  The community transportation market is becoming increasingly competitive.  Today, budgets are tighter, and governing bodies are looking for ways to do more with less.  As a result, community transportation providers are finding themselves in competition for limited resources with other agencies, private companies and, with the additional Homeland Security concerns, other priorities.  Now more than ever, community transportation providers must prepare themselves to change their culture from one of social service to that of a competitive business.  A successful competitor capitalizes on strengths, builds on weaknesses and above all is prepared to meet his or her challenges.
