Organizational Information

The New Jersey
Council on Special Transportation was founded in 1981 by a small group of
dedicated transportation professionals. Today, the NJ COST membership represents the
majority of specialized, paratransit and community transit operations in the State of New
Jersey.
NJ COST members are
recipients of multiple funding sources including but not limited to Casino
Revenues, Title IIIB, Title XIX, Title X, Medicaid, Federal Transit
Administration's Section 5310 and 5311, Job Access Reverse Commute, Veterans
Administration, as well as state, county and
municipal funding.
The types of
services provided by NJ COST members include subscription, demand response,
fixed route, shuttles and modified fixed route. The NJ COST
organization itself does not provide direct transportation services, we
leave that in the good hands of the experts - our member agencies.
The purpose of the
New Jersey Council on Special Transportation is to provide a forum for
exchange of knowledge and experience pertaining to the provision of
community and specialized transportation services for older Americans,
persons with disabilities, low income and other transportation disadvantaged
people.
NJ COST promotes
activities that enhance coordination of transportation services provided by
local, regional, county and state entities. The organization works
closely with and serves as a resource to government entities, agencies,
suppliers, and others on matters pertaining to paratransit and community
transportation services.
